Self-Drive FAQ

Can foreigners drive in Vietnam?+
Yes, foreign visitors can legally drive in Vietnam with a valid driving license and the required documentation. We verify your documents before rental — contact our team if you have questions about eligibility.
What documents do I need to rent a self-drive car?+
You need: (1) Valid passport, (2) Valid driving license from your home country, (3) A valid credit or debit card for the security deposit.
Is it safe to drive in Vietnam?+
Driving in major cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi can be challenging due to dense traffic. However, intercity highways and rural roads are generally manageable. We recommend self-drive for experienced drivers. If unsure, consider our "Car With Driver" service instead.
What insurance is included with self-drive rentals?+
Every vehicle carries compulsory third-party liability insurance as required by Vietnamese law. You can add CDW Insurance ($10/day) at checkout to reduce your damage excess, or our Full Protection plan ($350 flat for the whole trip) to reduce it to $0 with added coverage for glass, mirrors, lights and tyres.
What happens if I get a traffic violation?+
The renter is responsible for any traffic violations during the rental period. Common fines include speeding and running red lights. We provide a driving guide with local traffic rules before you pick up the car.
